Javier Zanetti spoke on his new book and his retirement among other topics in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“Everyone expected to see me completely tied to the sport, but it fascinated me to get involved in other areas. I started studying at Bocconi and started a different life. The book explains this,” he started before going on to discuss his retirement.
“Retiring is the hardest thing to think about. Now that I think about it, I could have played for another two years, but it was better to stop when I was at the top and not see those around you tell you that can not do it anymore.”
Zanetti then spoke on never having the desire to leave the club despite having three president’s during all his time with Inter.
“I want to be here because I am part of the DNA of Inter, I thought I could help in the various stages, now we are back in the Champions League, but it is only the start.”
He then spoke briefly on Giuseppe Marotta’s seemingly imminent arrival at Inter and Inter manager Luciano Spalletti.
“Marotta will strengthen the management and raise the level.
“Spalletti is prepared and he is always trying to raise the level of the team.
He concluded the interview by speaking on Inter legend Giacinto Facchetti’s importance to him.
“He has always been a reference point for me. He only spoke a little but he transmitted his personality by only looking at you.”
