Pirelli chief executive Marco Tronchetti Provera has spoken ahead of this Friday’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter and spoke on each side’s respective key player.

“This is the most challenging match of the year for Inter. Inter are missing some pieces but they are on the right track. Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player and you can not helo but admire him but I hope it is not his night on Friday. Mauro Icardi is a player of the highest quality, the greatest pure centre forward in my opinion. He is the best player for Inter and the leader of the club,” he explained in an interview with broadcaster Sky Sport.

He then commented on Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta, who is soon expected to be appointed by the club.

“He will bring expertise and experience. He gives meaning to the project. The big teams must have a project.”

Tronchetti then made his feelings known about manager Luciano Spalletti and club president Steven Zhang.

“Spalletti is a great coach, he has a good team at his disposal and he’s trying to make it big.

“I like Zhang a lot for the commitment he has and for his desire to understand and to drive the club towards success. I am very pleased that his commitment was realised.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on Lautaro Martinez and if he should play more.

“Yes he should. Young people need to play matches and I hope there is space for him.”
