Rodolfo Landim, the president of Brazilian giants Flamengo, has confirmed recent reports in the media that his side are interested in signing Inter striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa.

“Are we interested in buying Gabigol? Of course yes. We are happy to see that the top scorer in the Brazilian league says he wants to play for Flamengo. Every smart player in Brazil should have the aspiration to play for Flamengo. This is what makes Flamengo, Flamengo,” Landim said in an interview with Fox Sports show Expediente Futebol.

The 22-year-old striker has used a loan spell with Santos over the past year to get himself back on track after a difficult start to life at Inter. In 35 league outings for the Peixe, he netted 18 goals, earning himself the title of top scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. With the loan spell set to end at the end of the month, speculation has been rife as to what could happen next for him.
