PSV manager, Mark van Bommel, has no intention of just being a ‘sparring partner’ tomorrow evening at the San Siro against Inter. He has made it clear that he wants to be the one to decide the Nerazzurri’s fate, just like the two teams that will cross paths at the Camp Nou at the same time.

“We have had the motivation from day one, because this is found inside ourselves. We do not have to change our team mentality.

“We have made great strides in Eredivisie and in the Champions League, from the first match with BATE to today. These are beautiful games, you can learn a lot and become stronger. In these stadiums there is an atmosphere that helps you make progress.

“The first time as a coach you have to learn quickly, you want to prepare everything but you cannot have total control of the situation, if I see the progress we have made, I say they were important, it’s nice that Rosario said we grew up, we play the game we want to play.”

He then went on to speak a bit more about their intentions for the match.

“This match is important for Inter, the stadium is sold out, but everything depends on the result of Barcelona, even if they look to win themselves. Only for me it’s a derby, we are PSV and we want to win but for Inter qualification is still possible, we have seen that their level is high, we have played well, but we have not got many points. When I was a player it took us six years to reach the Champions League semi-final. We have to play as a team, then we can also win thanks to individuality, but to achieve results it is important to do well on a collective level. We played at Camp Nou and at Wembley, with huge attendances: it will be exciting, in Europe the game is different, they force us to defend a lot, unlike what happens in the league.”
