While question marks remain around Luciano Spalletti’s personality and his ability to withstand the pressure in big games, he is not immediately at risk of losing his job, unless Inter have a real collapse.
Come the summer however it could be a different story, depending on how well Inter finish in all competitions. The Antonio Conte links could come back to the forefront once more. Conte was considered before Spalletti was appointed and is eager to take revenge on Juventus. Diego Simeone is an idea that particularly fascinates the Inter owning Zhang family while a return of Jose Mourinho on the bench could also be possible.
Looking at the coaching situation is just one of a few points on Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta’s remit at Inter according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Marotta, who is set to join Inter in a directorial capacity of some sort, will also be tasked with dealing with the transfer market and the team. Club president Steven Zhang would like to focus on bringing Italian players in while Marotta will also have to try and keep Inter’s stars, such as Milan Skriniar, around.
Marotta will need to get his head straight down and guide Inter through a difficult period and he will also be a reference point for Zhang.
Inter have not thought much about suggesting to Icardi to not jump on the opportunity to go to Madrid for the Copa Libertadores final. It is something that has happened and it cannot be taken as a shift on paradigm. But the know-how that brings Marotta to the club is what Zhang himself refers too.
