Zinho Vanheusden, the 19 year old central defender, is one of the most promising players of Standard Liege. The father of the talented Belgian, Johan, was interviewed by Voetbalkrant.com about his sons current situation.

He began by talking about the season so far: “It was all about opportunities and trust. We cannot forget that he lost eight months of development due to a serious knee injury, and so it took him a while to recover his rhythm and the coach had to wait for him to be ready.”

On the players versatility?

“It always depends on the coach, but Zinho listens to everything that is asked of him. He is currently performing in a three-man defence, but in Italy he was always played in a line of four. Regardless, he plays with great technique and follows the coaches instructions.”

On the players character?

“He is a competitive young man. Even in friendlies he is always determined to win”

Are the three years he spent at Inter starting to bear fruit?

“I am not interested in the thoughts of others. The time he spent at Inter were a huge investment of his career, and he learned a lot. Some people said that he left Standard too soon, but can we say for sure that (if he hadn’t spent time in Italy) he would have the same opportunities he does now?”

Will Zinho ever return to Inter?

“For the moment, it would be wise for him to continue to play in Belgium. He has every opportunity here to demonstrate his qualities at Standard”

There is talk of interest from Manchester United?

“These things can all be considered in the future. For now, we are focused on his growth and development with Standard. He will also learn a lot from the European competitions.”
