Former Italy midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro has backed Inter to be ready to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title in two years’ time.
Mauro Icardi scored a second-half penalty on Saturday as the Nerazzurri picked up their first win in five games, defeating Udinese 1-0 at San Siro.
Luciano Spalletti’s side remain 14 points adrift of Juventus following the Bianconeri’s win in the Turin derby, but Di Gennaro believes it will not be long before they are challenging for the Scudetto.
“Inter needed that win yesterday in a difficult moment of their season,” he told RMC Sport.
“They played quite well too against a very defensive Udinese side. The goal finally came after a correct call from the VAR officials.
“Icardi is irreplaceable for Inter and they got the victory they wanted.
“I think in a couple of years they’ll be able to compete with Juventus. Milan will have to qualify for the Champions League like they did if they want to be up there too.”
