Piero Ausilio, Giuseppe Marotta and Antonio Percassi were the speakers present in Milan at the Four Season Hotel for the discussions on ‘Financial Fair Play: how to reform it’ organised by Sciumé lawyers and accountants.

“I thank Sciumé and the lawyer Ziliani because they have brought here several colleagues of Adise like Carlo Regalia, from which I received the nomination of president of the Association. Football has changed a lot with the arrival of new investors. It was normal to introduce new rules, it was necessary to create a competitive equilibrium.

“The idea in which those who spend the most money wins is not true, capability and experience are essential for success. I have respect for the role of the sports director and of those in teams who strive to achieve important results and this must always be safeguarded. Our category is not thought of much, but it has highly qualified resources within it and can be performed with training.I make self-criticism by saying that the system does nothing to create new leaders.

“Let’s talk about FFP: We have moved from a model of patronage to companies that represent major capital investments and the specificity of a world that is not always recognized. The FFP highlights the principle of competitive protection in this system.

“The Italian championship has always been the best over the years, today it is not but it expresses a level that is more than enough, unfortunately there is a Juventus model that is going too fast, with an average record points. Beyond Juventus, the rest expresses a very interesting competitive level of great balance. In these years we have grown excellent models in the province, where trading is an important aspect.

“I think that Italy represents an important level for the clubs and the National team, unfortunately there have been changes with the abandonment of the leaders and the places where a player like Percassi has also grown who is a special case of a former football player who has now become a great Director.

“There are negative cases of former players who today are in trouble, but there are also virtuous examples and Atalanta is also of this ideal. A more Italian Inter? Firstly we must have A winning profile. I am absolutely neutral between Italians and foreigners, in our league football clubs have gone from sports clubs to companies and public limited companies, listed on the stock exchange. Patronage is long gone, we are models of entertainment, which act almost as a show and must have important ‘actors’. Even Cristiano Ronaldo who is 32 years of age but he is still able to attract everyone’s attention. Whether they are Portuguese or not, they must be champions who can give something positive to the league.

“The aspect of making player enquiries, in general, is the shared activities that every sporting director has to do directly or through intermediaries. Certainly, both within the sale of Higuain, there may have been a conversation about Icardi. Piero Ausilio can confirm that we have never sat around a table to talk about costs, Icardi remains a high level player but has not given any concrete ideas about a possible transfer from Inter to Juventus.”
