Inter owner Jindong Zhang has given the Nerazzurri management team the go-ahead to go back after Luka Modric according to a report from Spanish newspaper AS.

Zhang has specifically entrusted new chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta to get the deal done. This is down to Marotta’s good relations with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who he dealt with to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in the summer transfer window.

Inter will make their swoop for the recently crowned Balon d’Or winner not in the upcoming January transfer window but in the summer window instead. By that time, Modric will have just a year left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and should, for that reason, be available at a lesser price.

The 33-year-old midfielder was subject to intense interest from Inter in the summer but Perez blocked the move and was willing to give Modric a new contract but Modric is seemingly uninterested in a new deal with the club.
