Inter will meet with Mauro Icardi’s representatives in January to hold further discussions over a contract renewal according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Currently there is some distance between Inter’s offer and Icardi and co’s demands but there is a mutual will to extend the contract through to the end of the 2022/23 season.

Icardi currently earns a base salary of €4.5 million and with bonuses his total annual salary comes to just over €5 million. Inter are prepared to raise his salary to €6 million but Wanda Nara has asked for Inter to consider bringing her husband and client in line with other stars in Serie A like Gonzalo Higuain thus meaning a salary of around €8 million.

As part of the new deal, it looks likely that the release clause will be removed. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has already shared the desire to remove it while chief executive Beppe Marotta is completely against the inclusion of a release clause.
