Victor Blanco, the president of Racing Club, has spoken on the exit of former striker Lautaro Martinez to Inter during the summer transfer window.
“The decision to leave always belong to the player. Sometimes fans think it is down to directors for not having higher clauses in contracts. It [an exit] happens when the player wants. If the player wants to leave there is not much that can be done about it,” he said in an interview with Argentine newspaper Ole.
“Lautaro originally had a low release clause of €9 million but we tripled that [with the new contract] to make sure that the club could earn more in the event of a sale. He left when he had to leave.”
Since joining the Nerazzurri on a five-year deal, Lautaro has made 13 appearances across all competitions. He has scored two goals and tallied one assist in 464 minutes of action to date.
