In what looked to be a goalless draw, Inter managed to go home on the night with all three points against Napoli in the penultimate Serie A game of the 2018 calendar year thanks to a goal at the death by Lautaro Martinez.
Inter were the better side in the first half thanks to a successful execution of a high press line which resulted in the Nerazzurri chasing the life out of Napoli’s midfield trio by closing them down the entire half. Inter created a few half chances but Spalletti would have been the happier of the two managers going into halftime.
However in the second half Inter’s high intensity pressure wore off due to fatigue and Napoli started taking control of the match as a goal for the Partenopei was hanging in the air. At that moment Kalidou Koulibaly lost his head and got sent off for mocking the referee and Spalletti seized on the opportunity by bringing Joao Mario off and bringing Lautaro Martinez on who scored the winner in the 92nd minute.
