Piero Ausilio, Inter’s sporting director, reflected on the Nerazzurri’s interest in Balon d’Or winning midfielder Luka Modric during the summer transfer window.
“I do not see why we should not dream,” he remarked in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.
“All I said was ‘We are here and if Real Madrid thinks a deal can be done we can talk about it’ but knowing our capabilities, we did not feel like starting talks ourselves.”
He concluded by refusing to rule out the possibility of Modric joining Inter, perhaps in the summer transfer window.
“Can he return as an idea for Inter? We are talking about a very important and quality football player and in football you can never say never to anything.”
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appeared to be the main stumbling block to any deal between the two clubs taking place in the summer with him intent on signing Modric to a new contract, something he has been unable to achieve.
