Inter Short Of Midfield Options Against Empoli

As Corriere dello Sport correctly predicted on Friday, Radja Nainggolan has been included in the squad list for Inter’s match away to Empoli on Saturday afternoon.

“Unless we are surprised,” they reported on Friday, “today Nainggolan will be named in the squad list for the match against Empoli.

“It is more difficult, however, to imagine the Ninja taking to the pitch from the start – even though against the Tuscans, in the middle of the field, Inter will be without the suspended Marcelo Brozovic.

“There is a lot of uncertainty, therefore, surrounding Luciano Spalletti’s choices. The only player sure of a starting shirt seems to be Joao Mario, while the natural substitute of Brozovic would be Borja Valero, also a starter against Napoli.

“To complete the midfield line-up, Matias Vecino is ahead of Roberto Gagliardini in the pecking order.”

Spalletti finds himself thin in the midfield department this week following Brozovic’s suspension and Nainggolan not being a preferred option. The probable lineup is as follows:

INTER (4-3-3): Handanovic; Vrsaljko, De Vrij, Skriniar, Asamoah; Vecino, Borja Valero, Joao Mario; Keita Baldé, Icardi, Perisic
