With Miranda’s future up for discussion, Inter are on the hunt for a back-up defender to support their first-choice partnership of Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij.

The club’s search so far has led them to Genoa and, more specifically, to the Rossoblu’s Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero.

As reported on Twitter by Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicholas Schira, the defender (born in 1998) has attracted the attention of clubs such as Inter, Juventus and Sevilla with a string of positive performances this season.

The Nerazurri appear to be at the head of the queue and sent scouts to the Marassi on Saturday, where Cesare Prandelli’s side secured a goalless draw against Fiorentina, to take a closer look at the player.

Luciano Spalletti’s side ended 2018 with a 1-0 victory over Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, with Keita Balde striking the game’s only goal midway through the second half.

The Nerazzurri sit 3rd in Serie A heading into the winter break.
