As per a report from Corriere dello Sport, both Inter and Milan will duel for the signature of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin.

The veteran Uruguayan is among the most desirable players with a contract expiring at the end of the season and is understood to be intrigued about a move to Italy.

Milan have already held some meetings with his agent, his sister. Intermediaries have however spoken with Inter as they are aware of Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio’s admiration for him. Moreover, they approached Inter due to Beppe Marotta. While with Juventus, Marotta tried to sign him last summer before eventually settling to bring Leonardo Bonucci back.

Godin is wanting to keep playing Champions League football so in this respect it puts Inter slightly ahead given their heightened chances of qualifying compared to their Rossoneri cousins. The two clubs could well face interest from Manchester United though with the Red Devils previously showing an interest in the 33-year-old as recently as in the summer.

The Rome based newspaper report that Inter are in for Godin due to the fact Miranda’s time with the club will come to an end in either January or June with Flamengo strongly interested.
