Inter are on the brink of securing Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin for next season, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Godin will leave the Spanish club in the summer when his contract expires and is close to agreeing a two-year deal with the Nerazzurri, with an option for a third.

Inter are currently working on the final details of the agreement with the Uruguayan and hope to organise the player’s medical in the coming weeks, before putting pen to paper on the move.

Godin was linked with a move to Juventus last summer with the Bianconeri known to be looking for more experience in defence, but Inter have beaten everyone to one of the most sought-after defenders in European football.

Godin has made more than 350 appearances in all competitions for Atleti since joining the Colchoneros in 2010, helping the club to their first La Liga title in almost 20 years and two UEFA Champions League Finals.

He also boasts more than 100 caps for his country, captaining Uruguay in every match at last summer’s FIFA World Cup before they were eliminated by France at the quarter-final stage.
