Mauro Icardi’s contract talks with Inter are being held up because of the forward’s wage demands, according to Sport Mediaset.
Icardi’s current deal expires in 2021 and sees him earning €4.5 million per season, with a €110 million release clause available for overseas clubs between 1-15 July.
Inter are eager to renew the Argentine’s contract, who is not looking for a move away from the club, but at the moment they remain short of wife and agent Wanda Nara’s economic demands.
Wanda would like Icardi’s new deal to be worth €9 million whereas the Nerazzurri are currently offering only €7 million.
She is also keen for the club to raise the price tag in Icardi’s release clause, whereas new chief executive officer Beppe Marotta would prefer to remove the clause altogether.
The disagreement is said to be purely financial at present but the club did not appreciate the comments made on Italian TV by Wanda a fortnight ago, when she claimed Inter tried to sell their captain to Juventus last summer.
Talks between the parties will not resume until 7 January at the earliest, when Inter’s players will return from their post-Christmas holidays.
