Inter have emerged as favourites to sign 18-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder Augusto Almendra, according to sources in Argentina.
Almendra has made 13 appearances for Boca’s first team since debuting in April and boasts three caps with Argentina’s under-17 side, attracting the interest of several European clubs.
Napoli are also interested in the midfielder but Inter are currently ahead because they are willing to loan Almendra back to Boca for 12-18 months, Clarin reporter Bustos Mila told Italian radio yesterday.
“Boca’s idea is to not sell the player,” he told Radio Crc.
“They are speaking with Inter and Napoli about a potential move in the summer.
“Napoli have offered €15 million for the player but Inter have made contact with Boca recently too, which went through [Boca’s new sporting director] Nicolas Burdisso.
“Almendra has a good physical structure. He has great strength and good technique.
“I think he’s more similar to [Rodrigo] Bentancur than any no. 10-type players.”
