Former Inter boss Marcello Lippi has lauded Beppe Marotta as one of Europe’s best managing directors and backed the Italian to succeed with the Nerazzurri.

Marotta was officially unveiled as the club’s new chief executive officer on 13 December and is currently focused on his first transfer window in Milan, having spent eight years at Juventus before leaving in September.

And Lippi is confident the 61-year-old will help Inter return to their former glories so they can compete with the Bianconeri in future seasons.

“Marotta is one of the best in his role in Europe,” Lippi told Quotidiano.net.

“He’ll be determined to do a good job in a club as prestigious as Inter.”

Juventus sit nine points clear of Napoli at the top of Serie A as Italy enjoys its winter break, having picked up 53 points from a possible 57 so far.

Lippi spoke highly of the work Inter and the Partenopei are doing but believes both still have a long way to go if they are to close the gap.

“I love the job Carlo Ancelotti is doing at Napoli,” he continued, “because he’s taken Maurizio Sarri’s philosophy forward but also added some of his own ideas.

“But they have a lot of work still to do to reach Juventus’s level, as do Inter.”
