Inter are to employ a ‘wait-and-see’ tactic when it comes to a contract renewal for club captain Mauro Icardi according to a report from Corriere della Sera.
They intend to do this for two reasons. The first reason is because they have not received any offers while the second reason is that they fear it could lead to other squad members asking for big increases to their contracts.
There are no planned meetings between Inter management and his wife and agent Wanda Nara to hold further talks about a new deal.
As per the report, Wanda will request that her client’s annual salary is doubled to €9 million per season making him one of the most well paid players in Serie A. Inter’s last offer was €7 million per season but that was rejected.
It also remains to be seen what will happen with the release clause. Icardi currently has a €110 million release clause in his current deal and Inter wish to remove it while Wanda wishes for a release clause to remain.
