Uruguayan international central defender Diego Godin will leave Ateltico Madrid when his contract expires this coming June, to sign a two year contract with Inter with an option for a third, Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia reports.
According to the report, Godin will become one of the highest earners at the Nerazzurri due to arriving on a free transfer. Godin is set to earn €6 million net per season at Inter, the same sum the Nerazzurri have offered to captain Mauro Icardi to extend his contract.
The reason Inter are able to offer Godin such a lucrative contract, is that the Atletico Madrid player arrives on a free transfer, which allows the Nerazzurri to pay him more due to not having to fork out any transfer fees.
Godin joined Atletico Madrid in August 2010 leaving La Liga rivals Villareal following a stellar season at the club. Since then Godin has made 364 appearances for Los Colchoneros scoring 24 times in the process.
