According to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone would like to keep Uruguay international Diego Godin in Madrid.

Atletico Madrid intend to re-negotiate after having proposed a contract in the last few months of one year plus an automatic renewal for another 12 months, linked to a certain number of appearances in the first season.

This is why Godin has declined no firmly, as he turns 33 in February, and as such this is the last important contract he will sign and he wants to earn the maximum possible. He had interest from China, but intends to stay in Europe and still play in the Champions League.

Hence the preferring Inter, the best placed in the league standings that have approached him, thanks to an excellent end to 2018 in comparison to AC Milan, and also currently holding a spot in the top four, something that will probably be achieved without any problems.

Marotta and Ausilio have proposed a €4.5 million three year contract plus bonuses and commissions, which in some cases are nothing more than a signature award.
