Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa could be set to extend his loan with Santos for another six-months according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Brazilian was expected back at Inter’s training ground tomorrow for talks with the hierarchy with regards to his future but Inter have decided to save him making the long trip to allow him to stay in Brazil where he has spent the festive period.

While Santos look the most likely destination for the out-of-favour striker, Flamengo have refused to give up on the idea of signing him. The Rubro-Negro have been extremely keen to sign him in recent weeks with a host of media reports in both Brazil and Italy confirming this.

In allowing him to stay in Brazil, Inter will be honouring the will of the 22-year-old forward who was able to make the most of his most recent year-long spell with Santos scoring 18 goals in 35 league appearances.
