Six months on from the World Cup, former Inter striker Diego Milito has returned to discuss Inter striker Mauro Icardi’s exclusion from the Argentine national team squad.
“It was true that Icardi had just completed a great season, but there are many excellent strikers in Argentina and I have shared the same feelings [having not been selected for the 2010 World Cup],” he told Tencent Sports.
“As I said before, we have many excellent players in attack, but I think I deserved more opportunities. Nowadays Argentina is really too dependent on Lionel Messi. The best players in the world should take a certain responsibility but teammates should give more support to him.”
Milito, who earned 25 caps, then spoke on the difference between Barcelona and Argentina.
“At Barcelona, Messi has more time to cooperate with his teammates and there is more tactical knowledge but with the Argentine national team he should be given more support.”
