ESPN Brazil have taken a look at how soon-to-be Flamengo player Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa’s salary compares to the salary that legendary striker Romario received when playing for the club.

Inter and Flamengo have, as per various circulating reports, reached an agreement over a six-month loan involving the 22-year-old striker where the Rubro-Negro will take on Barbosa’s entire salary for the duration of the loan.

Gabigol’s salary is 1 million Brazilian reals a month, approximately €235,000, and this is almost three times what Romario earned while with the club back in 1995. When the former Fifa World Player of The Year’s salary is converted to its modern equivalent, Romario, who had an illustrious career and is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever would have earned 360,000 Brazilian reals, approximately €84,000 a month, three times less than Gabigol.

Gabigol will be joining Flamengo off the back of a loan spell with Santos where he netted 18 goals in 35 appearances in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
