Atletico Madrid have not given up on persuading Inter-bound centre-back Diego Godin to stay in Spain, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Godin is on the verge of joining the Nerazzurri in the summer after agreeing a two-year deal with the club, who needed a replacement for the outgoing Miranda.

However Atletico are still working to change the Uruguayan’s mind and will make the 33 year-old an offer similar to the one he received from Inter in recent weeks.

Despite this Godin is almost certain not to change his mind as he has practically given his word to Inter that he will move to Italy.

“Godin has gone out on a limb with Inter and said he would only move to them if he were to leave Madrid,” Corriete dello Sport wrote on Friday.

“The Nerazzurri are waiting for him, hoping he doesn’t make a U-turn after having promised himself to them.”
