Former Roma defender Vincent Candela believes the Giallorossi are as good a team as Inter and thinks they could catch Luciano Spalletti’s side before the end of the season.

Candela made over 200 appearances for Roma in an eight-year stint at the club, helping them secure their third Serie A title during the 2000-01 season.

And the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner is confident Eusebio Di Francesco’s side, who are currently sixth in the table, will soon begin making up ground on those above them.

“I’m expecting Roma to be at their best in the second half of the season, starting from tomorrow’s match at home to Torino,” Candela told La Stampa.

“A lot of things didn’t go to plan during the first four months but that’s the price you have to pay for making wholesale changes, which they did in the summer.

“Where can they finish this season? We’re talking about a team which is on the same level as Napoli and Inter.
