Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has urged Mauro Icardi to stay with the Nerazzurri and become a club legend.

Icardi has yet to sign a new deal with Inter after weeks of public tension between the club and his wife and agent Wanda Nara, with no official meeting scheduled to resume negotiations.

However the forward is known to be strongly attached to the club and former defender Bergomi is hopeful he will stay for many years to come.

“I hope Icardi becomes a legend at Inter,” the former defender told Corriere delle Alpi on Saturday.

“There a very few one-club men in football these days.

“I think youngsters should pursue their passion in life and enjoy playing sport without following the money.

“Which footballer from today do I see myself in? At Inter I would say Danilo D’Ambrosio, but from elsewhere I would choose Andrea Barzagli.”

Inter will return to Serie A action this evening when they take on Sassuolo at San Siro.
