Sassuolo continued to be a thorn in Inter’s flesh as they played out a 0-0 draw to perfection. If it wasn’t for Samir Handanovic and some last ditch defending by Skriniar, Inter could have lost for the second time this season to Ze Derbi’s men.

Samir Handanovic – 7: A lot of calcio watchers rate him as the best in the league this season and he certainly didn’t do his reputation any harm. Looked unbeatable.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: Danilo’s crossing has improved leaps and bounds. He sometimes dwells on the ball too long but that can be put down to not having options.

Stefan De Vrij – 6: Stable game. Not challenged enough in the second half in particular. Moved the ball with some good short passes. Ineffective from set pieces.

Milan Skriniar – 6: Just like his partner in crime, he had a stable game. Skriniar kept his cool most of the time and even when in trouble. Can’t ask for much more.

Kwadwo Asamoah – 5.5:  – Very defensive minded. His first movement is always backwards. Not once did he play a quick or an early pass to Perisic. Too scared?

Marcelo Brozovic – 6: The only midfield player who could actually walk out of the Meazza with his head held high. Not his finest game but he was Inter’s midfield. Alone.

Matias Vecino – 5: Matias has some qualities and ability but this season he has shown none. Not sure about his role or position and somehow keeps starting.

Joao Mario – 5: It was his birthday but apart from 5 minutes in the start of the seciond half, Joao struggled to produce anything of the quality that he is capable of.

Ivan Perisic – 5.5: Ivan looks much more fitter and turned on mentally to affect the game. He was heavily marked and had no support from his full-back at all.

Mauro Icardi – 5: Not the usual Mauro we have seen this season. Didn’t get involved at all. Had a couple of chances which he fluffed. Get that contract sorted fast.

Matteo Politano – 5.5: Like Perisic, Matteo gave as good as he got against his parent club. His set pieces need improvement though. Took too many poor corners.

Radja Nainggolan – 5.5:  Got 30 minutes but didn’t look anywhere near fit enough. Got into the tough battles in midfield and found some space on the wing to no effect.

Lautaro Martinez – N/A: Did more in his 10 minutes or so than Mauro managed all night. Surely there is enough reason for him to start against Torino? He’s in good form.

Borja Valero – N/A: Borja coming on when you need a goal isn’t a great sight but that’s what Inter have at the moment. Didn’t get involved in his 10 minutes.

Luciano Spalletti – 5:  Spalletti got his tactics wrong tonight. Inter didn’t do anything of note until the 25th minute. Lautaro came on very late to grab the points. Poor show.

Luca Pairetto – 5: Both teams had enough reason to complain. He didn’t get any major decisions wrong, however managed to annoy both coaches.

Inter – 5: New Year, same old Inter. They played the first 20 minutes like it was a friendly. It took the team 35 minutes in the second half to get a shot on target.

Agree? Disagree? Should Lautaro get more minutes in Serie A? Who do you think was Inter’s best player of the night?
