Inter legend Esteban Cambiasso has spoken on a possible strike partnership between Inter captain Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez.

“I think Spalletti will play with two strikers only as a necessity. They are choices and I do not think that the tactical system will become a 4-4-2,” Cambiasso said in an interview as he appeared on Sky Sport show, Il Club.

Next he went on to discuss Inter’s draw with Sassuolo at the weekend.

“On Saturday the game was in Sassuolo’s hands. The 0-0 result was right but maybe the Neroverdi would have deserved a little more. Inter’s first priority is to defend well, then for a good midfield and then, up top, they rely on Icardi.”

He then returned to the idea of Inter playing with two strikers by recalling what Jose Mourinho did during his time with the club.

“When Mourinho wanted to use multiple striker he put them on from the beginning. Playing with so many attacking players was not a problem because he entrusted himself to quality players. When you are playing with the best you get a better return.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on Inter dealing Nicolo Zaniolo in order to get Radja Nainggolan in the Summer.

It is impossible to forecast what would happen. Zaniolo had not played in the first team yet, and in the year of the triplete we had given away Destro to get Milito in.”
