Former Inter president and current minority shareholder Erick Thohir has distanced himself from taking over as president of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI).

Edy Rahmayadi announced he would be resigning from his post with the PSSI yesterday and the search has begun to find his successor.

“I think Edy has done the best for the PSSI, we now need to consolidate and prevent our team from going down in the Fifa ranking,” Thohir is quoted as saying by bola.kompas.com.

“We have to improve management and professionalism and transparency must be the key. We must not allow politics to interfere in football.

“Would I become president? I would have been ready but I am busy until April.”

Thohir entered the Inter atmosphere in 2013 as he purchased a majority stake in the club from long serving club president Massimo Moratti. He sold his majority stake in the club to Chinese group Suning in 2016 and maintains a 31.05% stake in the club, a stake he looks set to sell on.
