Former sporting director Pierpaolo Marino has given his thoughts on the contract renewal situation of Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

Talks have been ongoing for some months now and there has been some public tension between all the involved parties but that appears to be on the past and reports are now suggesting an agreement is on the verge of being reached.

“Inter’s directors are very serious and this spectacular modality of divisiveness that Wanda employs, is disturbing the renewal. The renewal will happen given the player’s performances,” Marino, who has previously worked for the likes of Napoli, said in an interview with Radio Sportiva.

Icardi’s current contract at San Siro is due to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season and he currently earns around €4.5 million a season at the club. The renewal is expected to see his salary significantly increased to at least €7 million.

This season Icardi has made 24 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored 14 goals and tallied three assists.
