Optimism is beginning to filter through from Inter management that a deal can be struck to prolong captain Mauro Icardi’s stay with the club according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are due to meet with his wife/agent Wanda Icardi this week where they wish to understand what the distance is in negotiations.

Ausilio has already handled two previous contract renewals involving Icardi and while it will be Marotta’s first time, he has dealt with plenty big contract renewals throughout his career in football.

Icardi is currently under contract through to 2021 on a salary of around €4.5 million per season. Recent reports have suggested that Inter are willing to raise this to around €7 million but Wanda is requesting €9 million instead.

The 25-year-old striker has been in fine form this season scoring 14 goals and tallying three asssists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
