In an interview as part of Sky Sport show, La Giovane Italia, a show focusing upon the up and coming Italian talents, Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella has revealed his idol growing up was Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic.

“Who was my idol growing up? Dejan Stankovic. I loved his determination as a child and I still remember his great goal from midfield [against Schalke],” the coveted youngster said.

Barella could well emulate Stankovic in playing for the Nerazzurri with copious amount of reports linking Inter with a move for him. Inter aside, Chelsea and Napoli are also reportedly interested in signing him.

The 21-year-old has been a mainstay in the Rossoblu side this season making 22 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored one goal and contributed one assist in 1953 minutes on the pitch.

Despite his age, he is just four appearances shy of making his 100th for the Sardinian club having graduated from their youth academy.
