Inter have surpassed rivals Juventus in the race to sign Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

United are opening to moving the out-of-favour Italian full back on but are against the idea of a dry loan, even if there is a large fee attached.

Juventus have recently made an unsuccessful bid to sign him but have now in fact withdrawn from the race for the former Torino player. With this news, Inter are ready to accelerate and attempt to bring Darmian to the club during this transfer window.

With doubts about Sime Vrsaljko’s future at the moment given his continued injury problems, Inter are simply taking precautions. They have a €17,5 million redemption on the Croatian, who has yet to show his true self in his time with the club.

In addition to Darmian, Inter have also identified Cedric Soares as a potential addition and have already made an enquiry to Southampton about his availability.
