According to Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Luciano Spalletti is at the start of the end of his journey as the coach of Inter.
After being knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Lazio, the Nerazzurri must focus on the goal of maintaining their Champions league place by finishing in the top four. It is a vital goal for the coffers of the club, it guarantees about €50 Million from just being in the competition that can be used to plan and rebuild the squad.
The elimination from the Coppa Italia was seen as a missed opportunity: the eliminations of Juventus and Napoli left room to win a trophy, eight years since Inter’s last piece of silverware.
The management has confirmed its confidence in the coach and the desire to continue with him, then at the end of the season decisions can be made. However, the coach from Certaldo remains tied to the results.
There is the desire from the Inter management to go far in the Europa League: the trophy brings little money in terms of rewards, but it comes with a certain amount of prestige which Inter are desperately in need of, not to mention a guaranteed place in Pot One of the Champions League group stage next season.
The name of Antonio Conte is a hypothesis that has always interested the Inter management. President Steven Zhang has left Milan to celebrate the Chinese New Year with his family, where he will also discuss the future of Inter with his father Jindong, Suning’s patron who has always been fascinated by the former coach of the Italian National team. Conte is not just a fantasy idea, but a concrete possibility; not immediately however, because he does not intend to join a team part-way through the season.
