Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic believes World Cup hangover is behind Ivan Perisic’s poor season at Inter.

Perisic starred in Croatia’s run to their first ever World Cup Final in Russia last summer, scoring in the semifinal against England and in the final against France, but has struggled to rediscover that form for his club this year.

The 30 year-old has scored three goals in 19 Serie A appearances for Inter and asked to leave the club in January after receiving an offer from Arsenal.

“Sometimes you can play fantastic football and are at the peak of your powers, but it’s not always easy to recover your form after a World Cup,” Dalic told Sky Sport.

“I can’t comment on what’s happened in the transfer market. What I can say is that Perisic is a fantastic player who did very well at the World Cup.

“He’s done a great job but I don’t know what will happen in the future.”

Dalic also had words of praise for Perisic’s Croatia teammate Marcelo Brozovic and the midfielder’s new position in defensive midfield.

“Brozovic played in that position throughout the World Cup and he had seven fantastic matches.

“I think it’s the best position for him because there he can give you balance and spread the ball around.”
