Inter attempted a last-minute move to sign Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida at the end of the January transfer window, according to FcInterNews.it.

Vida has made 24 appearances for the Turkish outfit this season and had been identified by the Nerazzurri as a potential replacement for Joao Miranda, who wanted to leave the club last month.

Inter offered Besiktas a loan with an option to buy but were told the Croatian international would only be available on a permanent deal for €8-10 million.

Vida is said to have been reluctant to accept the move without guarantees he would be first-choice for Luciano Spalletti.

Inter also made an enquiry to Sassuolo for Italian defender Gian Marco Ferrari but that too proved unsuccessful.

The Nerazzurri therefore refused Miranda’s request to seek more game-time elsewhere, having failed to secure a reliable replacement for relatively low cost.

Cedric Soares was the only signing made in January after Inter discovered Sime Vrsaljko required season-ending surgery to cure a knee injury.
