Inter made an enquiry for Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari as a potential replacement for Joao Miranda in January, according to FcInterNews.it.

The Nerazzurri decided in a meeting shortly before the end of the window to not sell any players who had offers, despite the Brazilian having asked to leave the club in search of more game-time.

However they identified Ferrari and Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida as a precaution in case their hand had been forced in the transfer window.

FcInterNews.it reported today that Inter made contact with Sassuolo about a possible loan move but were told Ferrari would only be available on a permanent deal.

The club’s pursuit of Vida fell through for the same reason, with Besiktas asking for €8-10 million to part company with the Croatian international.

Cedric Soares was the only signing made in January after Inter discovered Sime Vrsaljko needed season-ending surgery to cure a knee injury.
