Inter legend and former club executive Sandro Mazzola has revealed that current Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti came close to joining Inter during his playing days.
“There was the opportunity to bring him to Inter. We could not sign him though because there was someone very smart that advised the president but secretly that someone worked for Juventus and then that made us miss out on him,” he revealed in an interview with Radio Marte.
Ancelotti progressed through the ranks at Parma and would debut in 1976 and would stay with the Ducali until 1979 before Roma came calling. He would stay in the Italian capital for eight years before Inter’s city rivals Milan signed him and it would be with the Rossoneri where he enjoyed the most successful spell of his career as he was part of the great Milan side that won everything before them in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
