Former Inter defender Mauro Milanese is just the latest in a long line of people to criticise Mauro Icardi as he accuses the Inter captain of lacking character.
“Icardi is a strong player who always scores 20 goals a season but he does not transmit as much character as others in the team do,” Milanese, who spent a single season with Inter between 1998-99, said in an interview with RMC Sport.
“He is not a captain like Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi or Javier Zanetti who could put the team on their shoulders and he is not like Gabriel Batistuta was as captain at Fiorentina and Diego Maradona was as captain at Napoli.
“I had some captains in my time at Inter who were similar. They lead by example, showed discipline, performed and they were appreciated. Icardi is a player who can be decisive, I think he is doing his duty in that respect.”
