Respected transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes that the prolonged contract renewal talks with Inter are not Mauro Icardi’s fault and Luciano Spalletti has only made the situation worse.
“He has two and a half years left on his contract and also earns a lot, I do not think the contract is his problem. I think that Spalletti’s recent statements have made it difficult for the club, which now has to accelerate the renewal process.
“I don’t know if the coach is putting himself in a bad position by making these statements. For me, and this is my personal opinion, this is something that originated from the dressing room that Spalletti wants to make clear that he is on their side, just like the team has shown that they are on his side. He wanted the captain to understand that he is part of the dressing room as the coach but that it is the club that has to resolve this question.”
