Former Napoli and Juventus defender Ciro Ferrara has shared his thoughts on Inter manager Luciano Spalletti’s recent comments with regard to Mauro Icardi’s contract renewal situation with the Nerazzurri, insisting he would have went about things differently.

“Personally I would not have said what he did on television. Instead, I would have discussed it with the club management in private, a bid to resolve the issue,” he said in an interview with Radio Anch’io Lo Sport.

“This declaration from Spalletti comes soon after that of Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta on Ivan Perisic and it seems almost like an answer to Marotta. I do not think that Icardi has been affected by everything that has gone on but on the other hand I do not even think that it is a good idea to give him a new contract when he has not scored a goal for a month [in the league].”
