Former Inter chief executive Ernesto Paolillo has shared his thoughts and feelings on the current situation of Mauro Icardi.

The 25-year-old striker was yesterday surprisingly stripped of the Nerazzurri captaincy and subsequently replaced by goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

“It was the correct decision from Inter to remove the captaincy from him. He is in an tug of war with the club and the club must maintain a very strong line. They must set impassable limits,” he suggested in an interview with RMC Sport before going on to praise current Inter CEO Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta.

“Marotta is a capable, good and serious individual who will show the club how to behave properly.

He then went on state, “maybe it is Icardi that is triggering all of this in a bid to get more money.”

Paolillo, who was with Inter between 2006-2012, concluded by admitting he thinks this situation will have a positive affect on the squad.

“I  expect a very positive reaction from the other players. They will now understand that they have to behave in an even more professional way.”
