Respected transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has weighed in on the recent controversy involving Mauro Icardi and Inter.

“Wanda is too direct with her outbursts and Inter in turn removed the captain’s armband and have taken a very strong position. What is happening does not make the situation easy. Icardi is enduring a moment of friction with the club,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports 24.

“He will be there against Sampdoria. It seems absurd that from here until the end of the season he may not play but there has perhaps been an irreparable fracture. The parties are a bit touchy at the moment and Icardi did not take losing the armband well nor seeing the locker room being angry with him. He needs to take a step back or I do not know what will happen. If a solution isn’t found it there will almost certainly be a divorce.

“No offers have arrived at Inter yet but maybe some clubs have spoken directly with Wanda. The club have always maintained that the player will only leave in the event his release clause is triggered. Should the situation continue it is obvious that the price tag could go down. ”

He concluded by admitting it is difficult to predict where he could end up.

“Who could sign him? At the moment it is difficult to say as we must understand what movements the big clubs in Europe will make.”
