Mauro Icardi’s current situation at Inter could have repercussions for him on the Argentine national team front according to a report from Argentine newspaper Clarin.

A public spat brought on by prolonged contract negotiation has ultimately culminated in him losing his captain’s armband with the club and he rejected the call to play for Inter against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

For every mis-step he takes, his chances of featuring diminish as per the report, especially with Sergio Aguero in fine form for Manchester City and looking for a national team re-call while Icardi’s goal drought in Serie A continues.

Argentina have two friendlies at the end of March with Venezuela and Morocco ahead of this Summer’s Copa America and this will give an important clarification about his immediate future with La Albiceleste.

Icardi has made 28 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri this season and scored 15 goals in the process.
