Newly appointed Inter captain Samir Handanovic has shared his delight at Inter’s 1-0 victory over Rapid Vienna in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie last night.

“I am happy for the victory more than the clean sheet. When the team does not concede goals we are all happy. I always hope to have the least possible work to do and if I do not have a lot to do, this means we are defending well,” he said in an interview with UEFA.com.

“In modern football the defence phase starts from the attack and the way they press, so it is important for them to do that well.”

He was also quick to dismiss a question about becoming the club captain in the past few days.

“I am now captain of a great club, but I want you to talk about the performance of the team and not about who wears the captain’s armband.”
