Legendary Italian footballer turned pundit Alessandro Del Piero has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debacle between Mauro Icardi and Inter.

Inter took the decision to strip the Argentine frontman of the captain’s armband last week with several of the club’s management confirming it was a decision made for the team rather than a decision made to punish the out-of-form 26-year-old.

Icardi has played 28 games this season and netted 15 goals but is on a lengthy goal drought in league action spanning almost 10 games and counting.

“Inter needs Icardi and Icardi needs Inter,” Del Piero, who enjoyed an illustrious career with Inter’s arch rivals Juventus, said in an interview with Omnisport.

He continued: “It is best that they find peace as soon as possible.”

The 2006 World Cup winner then went on to speak about the possibility of a swap deal between Inter and Juventus involving Icardi and Paulo Dybala.

“It is something that has caught me by surprise.”
