Racing Club technical director Manuel Fernandez believes that Rodrigo de Paul is ready to make the jump to Inter, he revealed in an interview with FCInterNews.it, where he spoke on the beginning of de Paul’s career at Racing Club.
“When I took up the position I had at Racing Club, Rodrigo was splitting his time between the first team and the reserves,” he said.
“Once the then manager left, we decided he should stay in the first team permanently. After a very short time he was sold to Europe for an important sum of money.
“Just before the sale was finalised, there was still a game to be played. The club did not want to risk him but he was doing everything in order to take to the field.
“We were in the hotel before the game he was protesting and crying but then he finally understood the decision to not risk him. It says a lot about his character.
“He was 18 at the time and had just signed a life changing contract with a team in Europe yet he still favoured playing the game over the money at stake.
“He has an incredible personality and is always looking for the ball when he is on the pitch. He is willing to take risks and was a leading player at Racing.”
Fernandez concluded the segment of the interview on de Paul by speaking on the transfer speculation linking de Paul to Inter and if he thinks he is ready to make the jump as well as how he sees him as a player.
“I would say yes. He is a modern player. He can start on the wing or play between the lines without problems. For me it can also be a central midfielder with thanks to his great vision. In today’s football it is a nice every manager to have a player like him.”
Next, Fernandez spoke on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, another player who is formerly of Racing.
“He was incredible for us. He never needed time to adaptat from youth to senior football. He appears to have settled more than good in Italy and can become even stronger.
“I am sure that Lautaro will take advantage of the opportunities he is given and repay the Nerazzurri. I have no doubts about him. He just needs trusted and made to feel important.
“Lautaro told me he was very happy. He likes to compete with such strong players. He wants to prove his strength he certainly did well in doing that by scoring against Parma and Rapid Vienna. It is for this reason that I think he will conquer Inter.”
